It is often through these creative mediums that our own personal journeys, especially our interior journeys, can be explored, affirmed and made known. Parallel to the pleasure of simply listening or watching a story (in its myriad forms), every culture around the world has its ancient tradition of 'sacred' storytelling or performance, whose intent is to connect or affirm people's connection to those things that have meaning and purpose and to honour the experience of our shared humanity. It is with this intention I have choreographed the dance 1,000 Cranes - Landscapes of the Heart.1,000 Cranes is a solo dance performance taking the audience on a journey through landscapes, or emotions of the spirit and the heart - landscapes shared by us all yet uniquely shaped by the breadth, depth and difference of our own personal life experiences.I would especially like to share this work with as many disadvantaged people as possible, including people with disabilities. This extends to include people in aged care, people living with depression or illness, people recovering from trauma, carers...It is not always easy to organize theatre and/or performance or 'entertainment' events for smaller groups of people, people with special needs, or people in 'care' circumstances. In addition to this, most mainstream concerts and entertainment events extend for 1-2 hours, and for many this length of 'sitting' time is not easily manageable or required for a variety of reasons. 1,000 Cranes has been choreographed as a 30 minute dance performance with minimal floor/stage space requirements, ensuring it can easily be brought to both privately hosted events and, for those working in the special needs fields, to a venue of your choosing as an easily accomodated entertainment event for your clients.One of the highlights of 1,000 Cranes is the uplifting music to which the dance is performed - piano compositions by Fiona Joy Hawkins, from her album Blue Dream. Fiona describes her work as 'classical contemporary' and her music is truly inspired and inspiring.1,000 Cranes - Landscapes of the Heart is a dance performance intended to affirm, celebrate and uplift the spirit and I look forward to sharing it with you.
